Courses / Faux Minerals / Minerals 1

Minerals 1 includes golden and black tigerite, yellow poppy jasper, and Chinese and Florentine lapis lazuli. Poppy Jasper is a quartz which is imitated by creating a yellow background with flowering red and white. The rich beauty of lapis lazuli is simulated by discreetly and sparingly placing gold flecks representing pyrite on a prepared ground of deep blue.

The Florentine Provincial
interpretation of the stone is bold, free and far removed from actuality. Golden tigerite, prepared through a complicated combination of metal leafing and multi-layered painting, looks like the marking on a tiger. Black tigerite is a dark version of the golden tigerite with rich red and asphaltum colors applied over the leaf.
